Botanica is reminiscent of a stroll through a lush and vibrant botanical garden. The exquitie color range is complimented by its luster and twist. We begin with an especially lustrous grade of wool fiber that is worsted-spin to give an exceptional shine and durability with a soft and springy hand. This rare combination of qualities is further highlighted by the spiralled 2-ply twist which creates a "shadowed" or "corded" appearance.
The colors are perfect for both apparel and interior designs that will compliment your wardrobe and home. Soft enough to be worn next to your skin, Botanica is also tough enough for upholstery and lends itself to such decorative applications as boundweave wall hangings.
Weavers: Botanica is stretchy yarn so in winding your warp on the board, add at least 10-20% extra to the length of the warp because the warp will shorten considerably when tension is released. Similarly, when weaving, always release the warp tension before measuring the picks of your weft. If you measure with your piece under tension it will be inaccurate.
The smoothness of Botanica makes a densely warped double weave a snap. Similarly, try using Botanica to make mohair and bouclé easier to use by alternating this smooth yarn with with the fuzzier yarns.
Since worsted spun yarns do not full or bloom the same way woolen spun yarns do, choose an appropriate sett and beat the weft as you want the finished product to look.
Knitters: The corded appearance adds an elegant finish to both stockinette and aran patterns and the color range make fair isles and intarsia fun. Try Botanica in your favorite patterns calling for worsted weight yarn but be sure to add an extra 25-30% yarn (by weight) because this yarn is a little denser and has fewer yards per pound than a standard worsted. You can also judge your needs by getting comparable yardages.
